Veterans Day 2011

I come from a family where service was part of my upbringing. We've had a member of our family tree serve in every War since the American Revolution.

I spent 4 years in the Air Force and 10 with the Department of Defense in an early part of my life and benefit from the lessons learned every day.

I take this day to reflect on "Why" I get to do what I get to do.

And then I spend much of the day in appreciation, just being…

"The Way to Wealth" by Ben Franklin

Those who know me know that I'm a big fan of Ben Franklin - I'd "Like"

his Facebook page.

I wanted to share something that he wrote back in 1758. It is a collection of adages and advice presented in his Poor Richard's Almanac during its first 25 years of publication, organized into a speech given by "Father Abraham" to a group of people. Many of the phrases Father Abraham quotes…

Have Fun Saving Gas

I wanted to take a moment to tell everyone about my newest business venture. Over 5 years ago I decided that motorized bicycles are what America needs so I started building my own as a hobby. Yes, people sometimes laugh when they see me riding my motored bike on Greensboro's streets but I get the last laugh because I'm getting 150 to 200 miles per gallon of gas and can ride to and from work for a month for less gas than most of you burn in two days.

As luck would have it, my passion… Continue

Stress and You

Are you dealing with stress?

This means that your body will eventually succumb to illness and possible life threatening dis-ease.

Your body is sending you signals all the time to let you know of impending trouble.

One of the biggest signals is low energy.

A drop in energy of ANY size does not just mean you are tired. It is a sign of trouble within the body.

Most of the time we ignore these signs, go about our business, and then wonder "why me' when something does…

What Is Reflexology

What Is ReflexologyReflexology is an ancient holistic healing technique. Practiced thousands of years ago it is now being recognized and respected as an effective gentle healing method.

We use touch to instinctively calm and alleviate hurt. So too reflexology is a series of applying pressure to specific reflexes in the feet and hands that stimulate the nerves that are corresponding to each particular gland, muscle, and organ throughout the entire body. In so doing… Continue

The Golden (Platinum) Rule = The Social Networking Rule

We speak of it and we try to live by it - "treat others as you would like to be treated."

To me it's the main rule one needs to follow within Social Networking.

The Golden Rule was a common principle in ancient Greek philosophy.

A few examples:

"Do not to your neighbor what you would take ill from him." (Pittacus)

"Avoid doing what you would blame others for doing." (Thales)

"What you wish your neighbors… Continue

Don't make a "Goal" instead make a "Promise"

This is the time of year that many of us start to think about 'setting goals'.

I try to pull out my “Goal Plan” (a sheet of paper I wrote them on) to see where I am on their achievement on a regular basis.

I end up 'hitting' some and not others.

I started to give this more thought and study this month in anticipation of the New Year (Resolution). I came across a Bill Bateman video… Continue

Merchant's Mirror accounting suite and what it can do for you

Merchant's Mirror is a web-based accounting suite that was developed right here in the Triad. Surviving the Medical System - by Martin Brossman

UPDATED: When my father ( Martin Brossman II ) suffered two heart attacks and repeated hospital visits in the space of two years, I quickly gained a good deal of insight into the nuances of interacting with the medical system. This, combined with years of volunteering at Duke Hospital where I received the Governor’s Volunteer of the Year award, helped me to develop an approach I now call “The Colombo Process.” Colombo, the TV detective played by Peter Falk, was famous for… Continue

The Conversation Of You on the Web

The Conversation Of You on the Web

By Martin Brossman

From your career to your business, it is wise to think about the current and future conversation about you on the web. When you have a talk with someone at a networking event, that conversation lasts only as long as you're speaking and in the memory of the people who were listening. Conversations on the web that may passionately express a strong opinion in the moment may live for years, long after the opinion… Continue
